Washington May 13. Secretary James Wilson and Dr. Harvey Wiley clash over pure food enforcement. The whisky labeling dispute centers on blends versus compound spirits, with Attorney General Bonaparte and President Roosevelt weighing in. Wilson’s allies fear his retirement as Wiley gains influence and Pinchot emerges as a potential replacement.
Henry Clews argued that individualism drives U S prosperity while socialism would bring stagnation and decay. The banker debated Professor George R Kirkpatrick, who defended socialism, at Columbia Theater in Brooklyn yesterday.
Perry Iowa experienced its third major fire in six months as four buildings burned yesterday. The volunteer fire department's rapid response saved much of the town, with property damage estimated near $25,000.

Word from Velardena in Durango state says a blaze engulfs the Tenares copper mines and traps 100 miners with no apparent chance of rescue.
Washington May 13 The infamous Kansas versus Colorado dispute over Arkansas River water diversion for irrigation was dismissed by the supreme court without prejudice today.
Premature blast at the South and Western railway camp near Marion leaves fourteen dead and eight bodies recovered. Walking Boss Kidd and Charles Hale confronted two drunken men, Jim and William Anderson, after which Anderson killed Kidd and Hale killed Anderson. Hale and five others were arrested.
Bangor Maine May 13 Michael Clisham a roofer survived a 12 000 volt electric shock after contacting a live wire, falling from a roof and landing on his head. He said he was born to be killed by lightning routes.
Oskaloosa Iowa May 13 residents were away at a circus in town when two lanzte dwelling houses in Beacon burned with contents. Loss estimated at 5000 dollars.
Walter Smith, a notable Johnson county farmer, died after being struck on the head with a billy by a policeman during an arrest in Iowa City. The head injury led to erisipelas of the scalp.

New York May 13 Mrs Russell Sage donated 200000 dollars to the Y M C A for enlarging its naval branch building in Brooklyn. The naval facility was erected by Miss Helen Gould and currently serves club members and youth.
Bank officials report a break in at Citizens Bank of North Topeka in Topeka Kansas with robbers claiming a rich haul. Details on the amount stolen were not disclosed.
