A smoke stack at the Citizens Railway and Light power house on East Front Street collapsed during a severe storm, tearing a six by six foot hole in the roof. The stack, about 14 feet high, was aging and rusty. six joints fell, causing the roof damage but no further machinery harm. A new stack will be installed to replace the destroyed one.
An advertisement touts Hall's Catarrh Cure from F. J. Cheney & Co of Toledo as the sole constitutional treatment for catarrh. It claims the medicine reaches blood and mucous surfaces, offers 100 dollars for cures it fails to achieve, and invites readers to request circulars and testimonials.
In Las Vegas New Mexico an unknown amount of dynamite and caps was stolen from a warehouse. Much was recovered but fear remains as a dog chewed a dynamite stick and a school girl was found with a cap in her mouth. Ministers urged vigils in all churches as the city searches for more stolen explosive.
A valuable horse owned by C. E. Richard and Sons spooked by a faulty axle wheel ran away on West Second Street. Harry Sample, driving, escaped injury though the horse knuckled the vehicle and severed its left hind tendon. If the wounds heal, the animal may be turned to pasture.
There will be a double meeting for work in the first and second degrees this Tuesday evening at 7 15 at Iowa lodge No 2 AF and AM. All members in good standing are invited to attend. Per order W TM.

Notice announces proposals for erecting a school house in sub-district No 4 Mos cow township Muscatine county Iowa. Proposals accepted by sub-director Henry Maurer until 7 pm June 12 1908. Plans seen at office. Contract awarded to lowest bidder. Board may reject any or all bids. Geo J Lang Secretary May 12 1908.
