The Decorah community in northeast Iowa enjoyed two hours of warmth despite chilly winds and clouds as King Olav V of Norway graced the town. Norwegian Americans, some who had toiled for months, welcomed the monarch with smiles and greetings, sharing in a rare royal visit.
The King of Norway thrilled Decorah crowds with a parade through the business district, open-car reception at Luther College, and a tour of the Norwegian-American Museum. Dignitaries included Governor Hughes and local officials as Norwegian and American flags waved, marking a proud immigrant heritage moment.
