No Early Recovery Seen In Fed Cattle Market
Farm economist Francis Huu sh of Iowa State University finds little prospect for recovery in the fed cattle market before summer. The Corn Belt and Colorado on April 1 had over 37 percent more cattle on feed than a year ago, with more than 10 percent more cattle on feed 3 to 4 months ahead, signaling sustained oversupply through spring and early summer.

Hay Dollars mailed to Iowa dairymen for early cut hay
Iowa State University Cooperative Extension Service will mail seventy five thousand Hay Dollars to dairymen this month. The program, now in its second year, highlights five ways to boost hay value. Early cut hay can add 10 to 45 dollars per cow in income, with dates varying by region. Early bud hay increases per ton value by about 50 percent over mid-bloom, while early bloom adds 25 percent over mid-bloom. A 1400 pound cow producing 60 pounds of milk daily would use 38 pounds of early bud hay and 16 pounds of concentrate.
