In St Louis on May 2 Albert Koening a lineman climbed a two story porch broke a window and entered Nettie Woods room where he shot her He then shot himself twice Both victims are reported to die The quarrel had arisen recently between them.
Ruby Hartman four years old daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Hartman of East Fifth street was severely cut on the right arm by falling onto a broken bottle while playing at home. Dr E B Fulham dressed the wound and the child rests easier.
Milwaukee May 2 Resolutions calling President Roosevelt unfair prejudicial and cowardly for his attitude toward the Moyer Haywood and Pettibone officers of the Western Federation of Miners were passed by the Federated Trades Council last night and copies will be sent to the President and each branch of Congress.

Spring Valley Illinois May 2 John Mitchell mine workers leader remains in poor condition after an operation with no improvement reported today his health status continues to be closely watched by peers and public officials alike.

Chicago May 2 grand jury began investigating charges against former Police Chief John M. Collins in the recent municipal election affair. Subpoenas for thirty six police officers were issued to appear. The charges allege Collins led funds collected for Mayor Dunne's campaign against civil service rules and ordered records mutilated.
Frankfort Kentucky May 2 The Kentucky Court of Appeals sustains the death sentence for Harrison Alexander a Black man convicted of assaulting a white woman The opinion is terse and comprehensive affirming the penalty under the state's assault death statute
President Roosevelt attends unveiling ceremonies in Washington for the General George B. McClellan statue erected by the Society of the Army of the Potomac. Attendees include cabinet officers and generals Sickles Howard and Dodge. Roosevelt named honorary member. N M Curtis elected president. resolutions favor peaceful arbitration.
Local option bill stalled in the house after a heated session in Springfield on May 2. Stormy scenes disrupted proceedings as supporters of the Berry senate local option bill failed to push the measure to a roll call.

In Viborg jail, St. Petersburg, troops were called to quell a political prisoner revolt. Soldiers fired a volley, killing one prisoner and wounding several others this morning.

St. Petersburg reports the empire's upper house adopting by unanimity the recruiting bill and a famine relief appropriation of 3 million dollars, both approved by the lower house earlier in April.
In Scarboro's Whipple mine near Charleston, eleven miners were killed and five injured after a late yesterday gas explosion. Six hundred workers were in the mine. initial fears of higher fatalities gave way to the confirmed toll of eleven. Recovery teams salvaged the bodies as rescuers searched for others.
Pittsburg May 2 railroads in the Pittsburg district filed tariffs with the Interstate Commerce Commission for a general advance in freight rates effective June 1. The advance this year is said to exceed any previously announced. Nearly every freight rate will rise and coal roads may add further coal rate hikes. The new rates affect all points east of the Mississippi River.
The State Undertakers association chose Sioux City as the next meeting place. Leo Myer of Clearfield was elected president and Chas Emerson of Creston secretary and treasurer.
Boston May 2 At the Tamarack Mining Company annual meeting the existing board of directors was re elected indicating continuity in leadership for the firm. The gathering confirmed the same executives will guide policy and strategy for the coming year.
Henry Sable, born July 13 1829 in Germany, died in Chicago after about a year of paralysis. Funeral planned in Chicago. he leaves wife and ten children including David Sable of Muscatine and several daughters and sons in Chicago, Detroit, Seattle. He came to the U.S. at 24, lived in New York state, Detroit, then Chicago since 1890.
The Accident Bulletin of the Interstate Commerce Commission shows 20,944 railroad employe casualties on duty in the quarter ending December 31, up 1,994 from the prior quarter. Passenger and employee deaths in train accidents totaled 474, up 207, with 180 passenger deaths the highest since 1904 aside from a prior period. Of 180 deaths, 143 came from three accidents including no collisions and one derailment. Employes killed while coupling and uncoupling were 84, up from 81.
A bold escape plan in Wapello county jail was halted by Mrs. W. W. Jackson wife of the sheriff. She found a tunnel in the wall of the main corridor twenty inches thick with a clear route toward the jail kitchen except for missing wainscoting on the kitchen wall.
Guthrie Oklahoma May 2 District Judge Embry on behalf of his court sent to Washington a recommendation that John William January alias Anderson a Kansas City business man who was convicted twelve years ago be pardoned in the modern Vatjean case.

Chicago May 2 Charles H Thorn ton and William W Baker former note teller and bookkeeper of Hamilton National bank pleaded guilty to embezzling 10000 dollars from the bank. Thornton received five years in Fort Leavenworth and Baker five years in the house of correction.

Dr Wayne McCoy a well known physician in South Point was shot and killed at midnight by Captain John Davis who said he found McCoy in his wife’s room and acted to defend his home. The incident occurred in Ironton Ohio on May 24.
