Des Moines March 25 The Senate committee on railroads plans to kill key measures including the reciprocal demurrage speed limit and anti pass bills though they passed the house. House members prepare resolutions protesting delay while railroads push the joint rate bill for passage.
New York stocks fell sharply with Amalgamated copper and U S Steel among the hardest hit. The market showed a demoralized, frenzied pace as prices dropped several points across major issues. Thaw's counsel remained in court denying rumors of dissension while Thaw issued his third statement since August denying internal strife.
Carthage Missouri March 25 The jury found Arthur Sanderson not guilty of killing Dr Solomon D Meredith on January 2 after deliberating 24 hours The defense centered on the unwritten law as justification for the crime
Impressive services were held at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia for Brig. Gen. Theodore J. Wint who died last Thursday. After the services the body was taken to Washington for interment.
The residence of Amos Rankin, a hardware merchant of Washington Iowa, was entirely burned today. The origin is unknown and the loss is about four thousand dollars, with the building insured for two thousand.

Robotic workers suspected more bodies beneath wreckage.
An avalanche at the Brittania mine on Howe Sound 40 miles north of Vancouver leaves four dead and four survivors. Among the victims are three white men named MicBridge Wilson and McPherson and two Japanese in the group with one Japanese fatality. The incident occurred Saturday near Bellingham Washington with the scene at Brittania mine, Howe Sound.
Secretary Cortelyou announced that United States 4 per cent bonds of 1907 held for public deposits may be substituted with other government bonds Philippine bonds Manila city bonds Porto Rican bonds District of Columbia bonds Hawaiian bonds and high grade state and municipal bonds at 90 percent of market value. Many withdrawn bonds must be assigned to the secretary for redemption per a 1907 circular.
A Saturday afternoon storm struck Mr. Irwin’s barn in Pleasant Prairie. Neighbors helped battle the fire but the barn and its contents were a total loss, with effort focused on preventing the flames from reaching the house.

Telegraph from Brig Gen McCasker notes Major Penrose exonerated while court declares 25th infantry men responsible for the Brownsville shooting. Senate Military Affairs Committee notified of the ruling from Washington dated March 25. The court cites the 25th Infantry as the shooters.
Freddie Palliesheck died at Hershey hospital from typhoid pneumonia after a two week illness. The 11 year old boy, born in Atalissa Iowa, recently moved to Muscatine with his parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Palliesheck and siblings Henry Paul Otto Adolph and Mary. His death follows the December pond accident in which his brother drowned. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 am from the family home on West Sixth Street with Rev J I Grieser officiating. Interment will be in St Marys cemetery.
Washington March 25 The ruling dynasty in China is seriously alarmed over the possibility of a general uprising due to famine. Advices to this effect have reached the State Department from Peking.
Elmer E. Sheppard a 17 year old Black resident of Appleton weighed 640 pounds and died today from fatty degeneration of the heart. A rough box was built for the body and nine men carried it to the undertaker. A derrick may be needed to lift the casket into the grave.
In Washington Secretary Cortelyou and New York Republican chairman Timothy Woodruff met with President Roosevelt at the White House for over two hours. Woodruff said the talks concerned presidential campaign plans for 1908 but no candidates were discussed.
Water heater in the dining room of the Cleveland YMCA at Collinwood exploded early today causing a panic among fifty sleepers. Fire followed the blast and a portion of the building was destroyed with no injuries reported.
William L. Church, a Kansas City contractor, was located today in a Dunning hospital for the insane after an eight year disappearance. Photographs circulated to police in several cities but yielded no word until his discovery. Mrs Church says no action was taken to pursue him further.
Mériden Connecticut March 25 Anthony S. John 30 is held in Southington on assault with intent to kill charge. He told his bride of a few weeks aged seven whom he accused of disappointing him. A quarrel followed during which he stabbed her.
In Roumania a fierce clash between peasants and troops left many dead and wounded after peasants routed soldiers in a violent confrontation.
Reports from Bucharest on March 25 say two thousand peasants in Moldavia and Wallachia armed with rifles and revolvers attacked a company of soldiers at Bacesi Vaslui district. Soldiers fired volleys, four peasants killed, many wounded, troops forced to retreat.
Guy E. Marchant a University of Michigan student who grabbed W. J. Bryan at a function and hustled him to a banquet was hazed by fellow students. The frocked hazing included dropping eggs down the back and breaking between clothes and body as punishment.
Des Moines reports the death of Rev. J. A. Sandell after a brief illness. Sandell led the Swedish Lutheran church in East Des Moines for eight years, building the state’s largest Swedish congregation and earning a reputation as a successful and well known minister.
St Louis March 25 Gotch the burly Iowa wrestler is noted as America's champion heavyweight and now engaged to actress Ida Emerson after ten days of courtship. Emerson capitulated to his advances ending the brief pursuit with a formal engagement announced yesterday.
Concrete dam and power-house built by Upper Iowa Power Company seven miles east of Decorah Iowa sank into the river yesterday causing an estimated loss of 50000 dollars. The cause is not yet known but it is believed river springs weakened the foundation.
In Florence Alabama on March 25 authorities report Cleveland Harding, who attacked Mrs. Benjamin Rice, was summarily executed yesterday by Rice’s husband and about 250 to 300 sympathizers. The crowd dispersed after the act.
