Chicago Limited on the Pennsylvania Railroad derailed at Brecsach Indiana 17 miles east of Pittsburg as the engine and first five cars left the rails. Early reports say the track may have been tampered with and no serious injuries occurred. Two people were fatally injured and nine others hurt when a Michigan Central train struck a street car in Detroit at Fourteenth Avenue. The Detroit car had 22 passengers mostly women heading to work. In Danville Indiana a westbound Big Four passenger train fell into a ditch at Avon leaving several injured but no fatalities.
In New York on March 22 the Thaw jury met Justice Fitzgerald who set 2 PM tomorrow for defense affidavits responding to Jerome's claim of Thaw's mental nonsoundness. Clifford Hartridge said affidavits by Thaw's lawyers and alienists will assert Thaw can advise his counsel and understand proceedings, with Thaw's writings offered as documentary evidence.

The panel of judges included presidents and leaders from Iowa Cornell Smith Coe Drake and Grinnell.
Three burglars entered the First National Bank of Harrisburg during the noon hour and began work on the vault door but fled before finishing. A claimed accomplice hired a driver to Eldorado and vanished before 1 pm. Bloodhounds failed to find a trail at the scene.
