Year's First Barges Signal Start Of 1967 Navigation
The towboat Frank Alter brought three grain barges to Muscatine for Central Soya to open the 1967 navigation season. Two barges were left at the downtown terminal and one at the Musser park terminal, with another at New Boston Indiana. More barges expected next weekend, with two loaded for soybeans and three for corn. Ice and lock activity noted at Oquawka Illinois and Keokuk. Additional barges destined for Clinton terminals and a coal tow by the Albert F. Holden loaded with 11 barges. The Muscatine utilities expect 150000 tons of coal by barge this season.

Jets to Fly Here During Aviation Day

Peace officers from four counties gathered in Muscatine city hall council chamber for a training day organized by Sheriff Dick Oppelt. School Boy 8 Struck by Car on Way Home
Douglas Mosley eight from 916 East Sixth Street was struck by an automobile on his way home from Jefferson school at 3 45 p m Wednesday. He was taken to Muscatine General Hospital then to a doctor for exam, with no broken bones reported. The car was driven by Judy Elaine Reed 18 of 1011 Poplar Street traveling south on Mulberry Avenue. The boy’s mother said he was pushed into the street by an older, unidentified boy about 300 feet north of East Seventh Street intersection.
