In Oswego Kansas on March 6 James Dryden and his brother were robbed of 200 by three men in a box car. James Dryden overpowered a robber, seized his revolver, and killed him. A second robber named George Gray surrendered to police. the third fled.
Mandan N C March 6 Three miners and two Iowa land seekers were badly burned by a powder explosion in a coal mine near New Salem. Arthur Abington and George M Clark of Decorah Ia visited the mine and Abington lit a squib to show Clark how it worked. The fire touched stored powder and the blast injured five people.
In Laporte Indiana five members of Charles Lang’s family are seriously ill from winter cholera after relying on melted snow for drinking water when their well dried up. The prognosis for the son is poor.
In Norfolk Virginia on March 6 a strike among car men and power workers remains unsettled as militia patrol the streets. Several women have been arrested for placing rocks on railroad tracks, signaling heightened tension in the labor dispute.
