J. W. Leeper of Metz, Ja., died Saturday after a monthlong fast at a city hotel. An autopsy showed death from liver disease and that the fast was undertaken without medical reason.
Vice President Gomez visited President Castro at Macuto as Castro convalesces from illness. The visit, reportedly brokered by Castro's wife, led to a reestablishment of friendship between the two leaders.
Philip Reinbrecht, born July 30 1829 in Germany, longtime Buffalo wagon maker since 1874, died of heart disease at Sunbury while visiting relatives. Survived by five children Philip William Mrs A Pahl Lewis and Mrs E Roe. Body to be taken to Buffalo for funeral Wednesday at 1 PM.
Mathew Boyle aged 60 was struck and killed instantly while tending signal lights on his rounds between De Witt and Grand Mound. The accident occurred early yesterday morning when a fast Northwestern train collided with him on the Northwestern road near Clinton Iowa.

A mob gathered outside the county jail in Marietta Ohio after authorities found Walter Savage of Syracuse New York with six unconscious girls aged 12 to 14 in his room. Savage allegedly lured the girls to his lodging, served them whisky wine and beer, and administered a drug, with authorities believing the girls were assaulted. Andrew Caruthers was also present.
