Water Main Break Delays Restore Service at Station Site

A Rock Island pile driver damaged an eight inch water main near the Pearl Street end of the new station site off Grandview Avenue. The rupture caused discolored water and disrupted service for about two hours while workers replaced the five foot section and flushed the system. City utility manager Anderson said the break resulted from failing to locate underground lines before piling began and the pressure drop stirred sediment and rust in the system. Water returned to normal as turbid water cleared after repairs.
