Tragic Rainbow Interurban Deaths Linked to Lightning
A lightning driven pole fire near Rainbow caused 33 000 volt contact that killed conductor Charles Bink and bystander Charles Deweese during an interurban telephone hookup. Coroner's jury returned verdicts that Bink died of electric shock in the line of duty and Deweese died aiding him. Witnesses described a burning pole, a stalled car, and emergency actions that saved others from the live wire. Funeral notices and local traffic disruptions followed as the community mourned the double tragedy.
