The Southern Railway awarded her a check and a letter promising to educate her and ensure her future well being.
Davenport Iowa June 27 Clark Whitmoyer a Civil War veteran and longtime Davenport resident collapsed and died in a Brady street saloon at 1130 AM while chatting with friends. Cause given as fatty degeneration of the heart. He was over 77 years old and left no relatives, living with the Lorensen family for 17 years.
Herr Kunert a social democrat Reichstag member was sentenced in Halle to three months imprisonment for insulting German expedition members to China in 1900. He said in a campaign speech that our soldiers in that desolated land plundered and abused women.
Mrs. Phoen ix wife of a Goldfield real estate man shot Attorney Hayes after he jumped a lot, refused to leave, and Phoenix attempted to eject him. Hayes likely fatally wounded. incident occurred June 27 in Goldfield Nevada.
Newbury New Hampshire June 27 Secretary of State Hay had a restful night and is reported very comfortable this morning. At 11 o'clock it was stated at Hay's home that the secretary was decidedly better today than yesterday.

A receiver took charge of Knight, Donnelley & Co. of Chicago after creditors filed for involuntary bankruptcy seeking 259000 dollars. Judge Landis appointed Alderman E. C. Potter receiver with bonds of 100000 dollars. Reports linked the firm to losses in the May wheat Gates deal and a market corner attempt.

Chicago June 27 The Post reports the international executive board has decided to remove International President Shea of the Brotherhood of Teamsters. Anti Shea leaders on the committee vote to depose him after a trial finding him guilty of violating the organization’s constitution and by laws. No appeal is allowed.

Ex Senator L E McComas of Maryland named to succeed Judge Martin Morris on the district court of appeals. Morris resigns effective June 30 after a White House announcement and a disputed claim he had not resigned.
Lady Grey Egerton formerly Miss May Cuyler daughter of Major Wayne Cuylar USA was granted a divorce on desertion grounds from Sir Philip Grey Egerton. The suit follows a prior action where she sued for restitution of conjugal rights and obtained a divorce but he refused to comply.
Staunton Illinois June 27 Jacob Beppler 43 who lived near Virden was shot and killed by Mrs Mattie Biedermann in a quarrel over the whipping of Mrs Biedermann's son The coroner's jury found Mrs Biedermann responsible and she will be taken to Carlinville county jail today
Virgil H. White a Des Moines attorney who disappeared two weeks ago after an overturned canoe and clothing fragments was found near Defiance working on a farm. Authorities fear the young man is deranged and in need of help.
In Burlington Iowa today L S Jenney aged 85 and Miss Mary Douglas aged 80 both of Keithsburg Illinois married after being lovers in youth and separated 65 years ago. They met by chance recently and decided to wed.
George E. Lorenz of Toledo Ohio, convicted over a year ago of conspiring to defraud the government in the sale of letter box fasteners, is remanded to the district jail warden for transfer to Moundsville West Virginia state prison. He faces two years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
Washington June 27 The investigation ordered by the President into the 231 000 contract awarded Lanston Typesetting Machine Co by Public Printer Palmer may determine whether he keeps his office. Talks of a successor have circulated but Palmer’s friends believe approval of his purchase of the machines would ensure his retention.
The Supreme Court unanimously grants the United States motion to quash the appeal of Gaynor and Greens from the King’s Bench judgment and affirms Judge Davidson’s denial of a writ of prohibition against extradition. Montreal June 27.
