Aged Veteran Dies After Bridge Tragedy In Rock Island
John Roth of Muscatine aged 84 was struck by a Chicago Burlington and Quincy train on the Milwaukee railroad bridge spanning the Mississippi River between Davenport Rock Island. He died at St Anthony's hospital after exposure to injuries. Roth a veteran of the Seventh Iowa infantry and long resident of Rock Island was returning from a Buttonworkers excursion when the accident occurred. Funeral arrangements set for Thursday at the German Lutheran church with Shelby Norman Post G A R conducting grave rites.
