Harold Sues Tax System Hurting Iowa Schools
Harold, executive secretary of the Iowa State Education Association, says Iowa schools face a tax squeeze after the 60th General Assembly failed to raise state aid or offer property tax relief. He warns districts with low valuations may deny proper education as local taxes rise and enrollments grow. The piece notes plans for public reaction at the ballot box and calls for an informed, broad-based program engaging lay people, teachers, and leaders to press for financing and policy changes.
