Cupid Warnings Narrow Draft Deferment Grounds
The War Department issues strict rules limiting marriage as a defense for draft deferment. Dependency from marriage after May 18, 1917 is mostly ignored for deferment unless a child is born or unborn after specified dates. Registrants reaching majority and marrying within the window face potential reclassification to class two, with no transfer to a more favorable class for evading military service.
