The 750th anniversary of the Magna Carta is marked by a new 5 cent stamp at the Muscatine post office. The design shows barons in a defiant procession with banners and a gold background, with a purple crown in the lower panel. Initial printing is 112,000,000 with two plate numbers per pane.

Governor appoints McElwee to River Parkway panel

Thatcher Glass Mig Co announces a new expansion at its Muscatine Island plant south of the city costing over 300000 dollars. The 35000 square foot metal warehouse will store finished goods and enable more injection molding lines. The project follows a 1955 addition adding 16000 square feet and parking. Construction begins this week.
