Freeman Stumping Washington For New Farm Bill Support

Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman campaigns on Capitol Hill seeking votes for the administration's farm bill. He expects to meet up to 30 House members before the voting starts next week, aiming for strong support despite some opposition from Southern members. The measure tightens production controls on wheat corn and feed grains. Kennedy backs the bill as it clears the Senate and the House Agricultural Committee. Senate passage reflected executive backing amid stalled committee action. Freeman notes favorable responses from some Northern Democrats while some oppose. Proxmire warns feed grain producers may reject the referendum. The story also mentions local fairs and community events including junior and senior judging divisions and 4-H activities, plus a wedding in Hebron Indiana and family visits to Plano.
