Iowa high school football ends ties this fall

The Iowa High School Athletic Association bows to a sudden death tie-breaker system for football. After a scoreless regulation, the winner of the coin toss on the 10 yard line selects play, with four downs to score. If no winner emerges, the process repeats at the same end until resolved. The move aims to simplify state playoff selection and mirrors Kansas practice. A separate action abolishes the state indoor track meet due to most schools lacking indoor tracks, replacing it with a two day outdoor meet possibly at Drake Stadium.
