City hearing stalls on 1964 permanent paving plan
At a Thursday city council hearing residents opposed a 31,918 dollar asphalt resurfacing of 44 blocks in the Nos 1 and 2 alleys arguing brick surfacing is adequate and that utilities keep digging trenches. Alderman Hilton pushed paving, reflecting a shift from earlier opposition, as longtime ally John E. Wessels spoke from the audience about past paving efforts and property assessments.
