A June cyclone swept through Duquoin and nearby areas in southern Illinois. The storm damaged buildings including the A. M. E. church which was demolished. A man and child sought shelter under the church and are believed crushed. Heavy rain and hail accompanied the brief, intense storm.
The 200th anniversary of the establishment in Connecticut of the Church of England was observed in Stratford with elaborate exercises. The gathering drew the most distinguished church leaders ever seen in the state.
