City officials study two plans to improve water quality with a new plant on the island using sand filtration or a lowland station near the city. An early morning fire at St Luke's asylum for inebriates, formerly the Hotel Woodruff, killed ten and injured over fifty. Many patients on the fifth floor suffered delirium tremens or drug effects and were strapped to beds. Firefighters rescued others as occupants leapt from windows. Prosecutions are expected.
Mobile Alabama report states Captain C. W. King former Fort Morgan quartermaster convicted last year of taking a $3 000 bribe in fort work. He pled guilty to the first count and was sentenced to thirteen months in prison and a $3 000 fine. The second count was nolle pressed. King arrived from Fort Dodge Iowa where he has lived since release on bond.

Cyril Colton of Union Township was kicked by a horse yesterday as he un harnessed it, breaking several ribs. A town runaway this morning stirred Front Street, with a loose horse belonging to John Duncan triggering a brief scare and the bending of a dray wagon. No further damage reported. Governor Cummins to address Old Settlers of Louisa County at Wapello on June 14.
