Lone Tree Meteorite Stuns Iowa Geologists
University of Iowa geologists identify a 50 pound rock found May 21 1971 by Loren Westfall in a Lone Tree soybean field as an unusual meteorite. They date its fall to before farming began about 100 years ago, likely since the last glacial retreat 10 000 years ago, noting it turned up when the field was plowed and herbicide sprayed.
