Fire destroys nine in family at Parkersburg
In Parkersburg West Virginia a deadly house fire claimed the lives of 12 family members including Charles Bailey and his eight children. Teenage witnesses Roger Bailey 13 and Susan 15 watched in shock as the blaze engulfed their home destroying an eight room frame structure in about 45 minutes. The grandfather Obie Bailey 63 escaped through a bathroom window and was hospitalized for shock. Fire officials could not determine a start location.
