Moisture shortage hits South Central Iowa crops
A Des Moines weather bulletin reports a hot dry week until Thursday night with six degrees above normal. Heavy rain in the last three days brought variable totals from 4.22 to 6.61 inches, mainly in east central and northwest counties, causing flood and soil erosion damage in the heaviest showers while overall conditions improve with moisture. The report notes crop moisture scarcity in most of the region except corn, with stock water running short, while alfalfa and clover recovery is noted and a June 1 crop-versus-average comparison shows diverse gains and losses across crops and fruits in Southern Iowa.
