Feed Water and Shade: Formula for More Milk
County Extension Director Eugene Mathern cites feed shortage as the top summer milk slump cause. Voelker of Town State University recommends three summer supplements: hay or silage, more grain, and daily chopped forage, with a combination usually best. Water and artificial shade also boost production, plus fans in the milking barn to improve comfort and deter flies.
