City considers off street metered parking near East and Cedar
Muscatine city administrator Gordon Jaeger recommended converting the corner of East Street and Cedar Streets into an off street metered lot. City Council Amends Budget At Public Meeting
The city council amended the current budget Thursday night with no added taxpayer cost. Increases are funded by higher receipts and cash balances, including street fund from 263300 to 359831 and municipal enterprise from 135035 to 228048, recreation fund from 229850 to 237985, street construction from 221000 to 230000, and sewer rental from 354158 to 81488972, which includes 510000 from HUD.

Monsanto safety award marks third recognition for Muscatine plant
The Monsanto board of directors safety award was presented to Muscatine plant employees at a ceremony led by Plant Manager Charles H Thurman. The plant logged 1,184,680 safe man hours since startup in 1961 through May 8 1969, earning its third board award indicated by two stars on the pennant. Meanwhile two-car crash on Lucas Street near Cook left Frank William Ryder injured. he faced bonds on charges of striking a parked car and OMVI with a midnight incident reported at 11:57 p.m. Ryder, treated at Muscatine General Hospital, posted $525 total bonds.

At Thursday's city council meeting one traffic item passed. A stop sign for westbound traffic on Harrison Street at Grand Avenue was designated. Stop signs were denied at Linco Harrison and 4th Brook. Clay Isett stop sign change denied. Leroy Street parking study to continue. Police chief recommends removing parking on south side of sharp 700 block. City engineer favors total ban with six months to a year delay. More discussion planned at June 19 meeting.
