Government to Study Chemical Pesticides to Find Hazards
Washington plans field tests and studies to show properly applied chemical pesticides pose no hazard to humans or wildlife. Five teams of scientists will assess soil land insects wildlife crops and fish in the Mississippi River region to counter claims linking pesticides to fish kills. The Agriculture Department cites industrial sources as a major residue contributor and seeks to disprove broad pesticide blame.

Wool incentive price set for 1965 marketing year urged
Wool producers are asked to recommend the incentive price for shorn wool for 1965. Edw. J. Meagher, chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, says recommendations are due by June 8. The 8.5 cents per pound incentive has persisted since the program began. The 1965 year will be the last under the National Wool Act as amended. The act aims to support about 300 million pounds annually, funded from wool import duties. U.S. wool production fell from 266 million pounds in 1960 to 298 million in 1963 due to lamb prices, range competition, and cost issues. Submissions go to the Director, Policy and Program Appraisal Division, ASCS, USDA, Washington, D.C.
