Americans Stiffen Drive Back Huns In Major Battle
The article reports Allied forces stiffening their defense against German advances with reserves arriving. Intense fighting occurred between the Aisne and the Oise near Choisy and west of Cuts, where repeated attacks by allied troops gained ground. Troesnes saw a counterattack with Chasseurs and cavalry recapturing 2,000 yards of territory. East near Verneuil and Dormans the foe concentrated strong divisions, but prisoners suggest a crossing of the Marne is unlikely. British and French forces fought side by side near Champlat, pushing Germans back and taking prisoners.

Wilson Opposed to Day Regulations in Food Stoppage
President Wilson said he would oppose more prohibition legislation until the food administration deems it needed to conserve foodstuffs. The stance was conveyed in a letter to Senator Sheppard of Texas. A House amendment to the agricultural appropriation bill would block $6,000,000 in spending unless the president bans the use of grain for producing alcoholic beverages.
