In Muscatine, Dennis O Leary secures the Democratic sheriff nomination while John R Wiley wins the Republican bid. Albert B Cumming dominates the state ticket race for senator with 660 votes. Ove r night returns from yesterday's state wide primary kept Cummins ahead by about 50,000 and Starks around 20,000. Connolly defeated Meredith in Des Moines by roughly 19,000 to 20,000, with incomplete precincts delaying final figures. The mixed results touched several races, with Basher vs Schenk for US Senate uncertain and Dowell leading in seventh district for GOP nomination.
Five sticks of dynamite with burning fuses were found late today under the Department of Agriculture in Washington at the office of Secretary Houston. An employee extinguished the fuses before damage occurred. Police examined the sticks after taking them to headquarters. Watchman Daniel H. Juch, who found the dynamite, was detained as investigators probed his mental state amid search for another recently discharged employee who had made threats.
The government argues Omited Shoe Machinery Co has monopolized part of the shoe machine business through leasing and control of over 55 corporations and individuals. Federal judges hear final arguments seeking a decree declaring the parties in an unlawful monopoly under the Sherman Act.

Federal court at Trenton New Jersey ordered the dissolution of the Thread Trust. The decree names American Thread Company Thread Agency English Sewing Cotton Company Spool Cotton Company and others for entering a restraint of trade. The government and defendants agreed to the decree and barred officials from pursuing the cooperation.
Davenport June 9 Complete returns from all precincts in Scout county overturn the early McDonald lead and show Thomas Stapleton of Marengo winning the Democratic congressional nomination over W J McDonald of Iowa City. Final tallies by county show Stapleton ahead with 3 948 to 3 795, with McDonald’s total at 3 795 and Stapleton carrying the district in several counties.
Lavina Kuhn Woodworth of Milwaukee Wisconsin dies after months of illness at Presbyterian hospital in Chicago. Survived by son and five children and relatives in Muscatine and Louisa counties. She had been moved to Florida in January but did not improve and returned to Chicago for treatment.
Results from Louisa County show Senator Cummins carrying the county 992 to 504 over Savage while Governor Clarke wins 965 votes, Lee 293, Rowley 94. Connolly loses to Meredith 143 to 156 in the senatorial race, with county officials listed and party ticket results for auditor, recorder, attorney, and supervisors.
Quebec June 2 first public funeral for Empress of Ireland collision victims to be held Wednesday. Bodies of crew to be buried as a public procession heads by the Royal Canadian garrison band and a detachment from the warship Lussex. Marine authorities will close schools and suspend business during the ceremony.
