Farm Bureau near merger of Iowa Illinois supply firms
The Town Farm Bureau moves to merge its wholesale supply company into a $100 million cooperative with the Illinois Farm Supply Co. Delegates voted to send the merger proposal to member shareholders, aiming for final action this summer. The combined firms cover feed plant food petroleum and other farm supplies with multi state operations and substantial annual volumes. Some groups oppose the merger citing negotiations with the Iowa Consumers Cooperative Association. Directors expect reduced overhead and costs from consolidation while health and accident insurance plans were also discussed.
