City Council debates change to bid opening procedure

Muscatine is delaying action on an ordinance that would let the city administrator open bids for public works instead of requiring a formal council meeting. The tie vote paused the proposal, with opponents arguing it would dilute council power and empower staff. supporters say it would speed approvals and improve bid handling.

YMCA Men's Fellowship Breakfast Planned at Local Center

Sergeant Floyd Bicentennial Towboat Heads Up Mississippi

The Army Corps of Engineers towed bicentennial exhibit Sergeant Floyd will travel north on the Mississippi from Quincy Illinois to Bellevue Iowa in early August with stops in Quincy Burlington Lock 15 and the Quad Cities. The 130 foot towboat with a six screen multimedia display tours inland and gulf waterways through December 1976, offering a one hour program about the Corps Panama Canal hydroelectric power water resources and river history.

YMCA Bicycle Club Campout And RAGBRAI III Prep Ride

Nineteen YMCA Bicycle Club members camped overnight at Scott County Park with a sag wagon escort on a roughly 108 mile round trip through Durant Maysville Eldridge and Long Grove. A July 26 ride to Lone Tree starts at 7:30 a.m. in front of the YMCA. A July 24 meeting at 7 p.m. at the YMCA is for RAGBRAI III participants. Pat Grimm is listed for more information at 263 4813.
