Manila July 22 A large operation in Cavite province aimed at capturing Felizardo and Montalara Ladrone chiefs failed as they broke through the cordon and escaped to the mountains. About twelve hundred constabulary fought through a 50 square mile area.

Stephen Martin, born December 18 1834 in Brookville Indiana, long time Wapello resident, died last evening. He is survived by wife Mary Carrott, sons George M of Wapello and Flora L Dechas tren of Tucson Arizona, with two infant deaths. Funeral set for 10 am Wednesday.

Runaway Goods Seller Caught Then Arrested

West Liberty Marshal Wiley reports a man selling goods without a license fled toward the city after being chased from switch yards. The thief was caught later the same day at the depot, excused, then retried and found guilty of theft with a 30 day sentence. He is to serve 3 days at Wilton.

Chicago Freight Handlers Strike Harms Merchants and Shipping

Robert Seiler reports from Chicago that the freight handlers strike has tied up the city’s trade and may force shifts. Commission men say recovery could take a year or more as jobbing houses relocate to Peoria Burlington Davenport and Cedar Rapids. Flood at Oquawka Leaves Town as Island Center

Flooding along Henderson Creek and its tributaries for four days swamped land up to ten feet deep from Melroy to the river. Cattle horses hogs drowned including eight prized horses on the Burgett farm. Water began receding Sunday noon while the river held steady. Harrisburg Man Fires Twice Killing Wife and Another

In Harrisburg Pennsylvania on July 22 William Filer shot and killed his wife and Harry Bennett the man he alleged her to be intimate with. Police reported the shootings occurred early this morning at the couple’s home. Filer was taken into custody and faces homicide charges.
