Close-Up View of Weed Park Deer Now Open to Public
Weed Park visitors over the July 4 weekend can view the park herd of native white tail deer in a new pen with a seven foot fence behind the monkey pen. The six adults and two fawns will be on display Saturdays Sundays and holidays while on other days they roam the old pen. Park superintendent John Kirkland announced completion of the pen and noted future hand feeding will begin as the deer tame. A new three acre range and corral with a shea dost fence will aid handling.

Mother Drowns Two Children in Bath Then Slashes Self
Bridgeport police report a 33 year old mother drowned her two daughters aged 3 years and 4 months in a bathtub and cut her own wrists and throat in a Friday night incident. The husband found the children and the woman was hospitalized in non critical condition. The medical examiner cited drowning as the cause of the children's deaths and authorities cite the mother's despondency over a ill child and debts.

Five Years Given for Mutiny on Missouri River Cruise
Randolph A. Bell, 46, of Bluefield West Virginia pleaded guilty to mutiny on a Missouri River cruiser owned by Lee Hammers of Clinton Iowa. Bell admitted to planning or supporting the mutiny and was sentenced to five years in prison. The incident involved Bell allegedly robbing Hammers of 740 dollars while the boat was moored near Parkville Missouri.
Teen-Age Gang Battle Ends in Death of Chicago Youth
A 17 year old high school senior, Kenneth Sloboda, was killed by a shotgun blast during a teen age gang confrontation on Chicago’s south side. A 14 year old freshman admitted firing the shot from a car. three autos sped away, later returning with youths who rode in the vehicles. Police detained several suspects, including a Macis brother, while Sloboda’s mother mourned his loss. In a separate incident, three other youths were stabbed at Riverview Park.

The curtain fell as Miss Bonner died on stage at 47 from an apparent heart attack during a scene with co star Stan Staudigl. Iowa Woman Killed in Maquoketa Gas Explosion
Mrs. Ed ward Podlak, 63, died from third degree burns and shock after a Friday gas explosion that badly damaged her five room home in Maquoketa.
