A Conversation in Japan Leads To Youth Visiting in Muscatine
Osamu Fukuoka a 22 year old from Hamada Shimane arrives in Muscatine to spend a year as a family guest with the Stanley M Howe family. He attends Community College summer courses and aims to master English, attend college and gain an American experience. The arrangement stems from a Japanese meeting in Kyoto where Osamu befriended the Howes. He will return to Kyoto after his year, while his father a tailor and brothers Kazuto a college student and Akihiro an English teacher are noted. The Howes home on Oakland Drive is being remodeled with Osamu’s help and salary. He enjoys swimming and recreation with the family and the children view him as a brother.
