In Ainsworth Iowa on January 21 a Highland township estate, Pine Grove farm, was sold by Hon E F Brockway to Captain W A Wilson. Brockway then purchased the Noah Letts farm near Letts Iowa comprising 800 acres. The combined value of the two real estate deals is 103000 dollars.
Decatur Indiana January 21 Mrs Alex Garwood mother of John Garwood who was killed by John Bauman near Wiltshire Ohio last Saturday night died of grief after learning of the tragedy.
Des Moines reports a push by lawmakers to increase compensation for future sessions. Current pay stands at 550 dollars for a session, a sum considered low given other work and the three months off between sessions that disrupts business.

In Rockford Illinois on January 21 a porter on an Illinois Central passenger train told R H Read a rich stock shipper from Logan Iowa to put on his shoe. Read complied but declared he would not ship again on the line. He had been using Northwestern but trialing Illinois Central. Read, one of the best dressed passengers, wore varicolor shoes and polka dot hose and carried 2890 in his vest from two cattle cars.
About 300 Boston teamsters began a strike after employers failed to sign the wage and hours agreement adopted by the majority of city members.
Pictou Col Jan 21 A gas explosion in the mines of Colorado Fuel and Iron Company yesterday killed at least six workers and seriously injured ten. The mine is burning and authorities fear more may be trapped by the flames.
