Local Salute to Industry Dinner Planned in October

Muscatine Development Corporation plans its annual industry recognition banquet for October, marking Iowa Salute to Industry month and shifting from former May or June dates. New board members Kenneth Sturms and others were elected for three year terms, with several incumbents re-elected. The 1966 fiscal year closed with assets of 83,547 and expenditures of 16,335.59. The housing committee urged more affordable rental property while growth highlighted includes Wolverine and Golden Yield Farms. Muscatine industries grew from 3,100 to 4,300 jobs with payroll rising to 30 million annually. railcar loadings and trucking activity also surged.

Medical Self-Help Class Opens For More Adults

A free Civil Defense Medical Self-Help course at the Monsanto Company office is seeking 10 to 15 additional adults. The four week program runs Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p m. Call the Civil Defense office at 263 5534 on Thursday or Earl Jones at home on Wednesday to join. The training aims to prepare individuals to survive if disaster strikes without a doctor.

Local Students In University Symphony Band

Two Muscatine youths join about 100 members of the University of Iowa Symphony Band for the tenth annual Iowa Band Clinic opening with a concert at Iowa Memorial Union at 8 p.m. Thursday Jan. 19. Jeanne Leslie, daughter of William and Jeanne Leslie of 601 Cedar Street, is a junior in liberal arts and plays clarinet, having toured Europe with the band last spring. Linda Smith, daughter of Leo and, 2307 Hershey Avenue, plays bassoon, and is a freshman in liberal arts.

Muscatine Officials Attend Flood Seminar in Rock Island

Area officials from Muscatine and county board members joined a Rock Island district flood control seminar led by the Corps of Engineers. Weather chief Joern reported 1.9 inches water content in upper Mississippi snow. 4.14 to 5 inches content could trigger floods. Training to measure snow depth and water content begins mid February. first advisory on spring flood prospects due mid March.

Waterloo Youth Dies of Injuries

Richard Rodgers, 20, an Iowa State University student from Waterloo, died in a hospital after injuries from a two car crash on Iowa 58 four miles east of Reinbeck. The accident occurred last April 8 and Rodgers succumbed Monday.

Four hurt as car hits parked trailer in Muscatine

A car struck the rear of a parked semi trailer in the 700 block of West Mississippi at 1 am injuring four people. Injured were Calixtroz Mata Jr 24 Peggy Althaus 23 and Arturo Garza 1001 Nebraska street all hospitalized with facial and knee injuries and Vicenta Gracia 25 treated and released. The trailer was attached to a truck tractor pulled by Robert LeRoy Newcomb 35 who was unhurt. Police said the vehicle halted with warning lights flashing. no reason given.

Injured Youth in Muscatine Wins 10000 Settlement

In Muscatine district court, Ronald A. Davis was authorized to accept 10000 as settlement of a tort claim for his son Robert Allen Davis, 15, injured in a Sept 6 crash on the New Era road northeast of Muscatine. The judge ordered the funds directed to future investment after medical costs of 2883.68.

Jail Weekend Ordered for Driver

Fred DeWayne Busch 19 of 954 Whicher Street will serve a two day jail term after being arrested by Muscatine police for driving with a suspended license. Justice of the Peace Walter Pilgram ordered Busch to enter county jail Friday at ? p.m. and be released Sunday at 7 p.m.

Mental Health Association Meets Tonight

The Muscatine County Mental Health Association will meet at 8 tonight at Grace Lutheran Church. Plans will be made for the February 21 annual meeting. The public is invited to attend association meetings.

Supervisors Set Election for Drainage District 10

Muscatine county supervisors set February 6 as the trustee election for Drainage District 10 after accepting a petition from about 28 landowners. The district, about 1522 acres in Goshen and Pike townships, will elect three trustees at large from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Cedar Valley Methodist Church. The district, previously county-administered, includes a ditch feeding into Pike Creek west of the Cedar River.
