Addison L. Scott son of John K. and Mary A. Scott died at home in Des Moines on Saturday night. He was born August 30, 1864 in Muscatine and married Helen Zimmerman in Phillipsburg Kansas on December 21, 1889. He worked as a locomotive engineer on the Rock Island and Wabash railways and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He is survived by his widow and siblings. funeral services will be held at George Wittich Funeral Home in Muscatine on Tuesday at 2 30 p m with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.

Farmers Block Foreclosure Sale in Cedar County
About 25 farmers from the Farm Holiday association of Cedar County gathered at the Tipton courthouse to oppose the sheriff sale of J A Hayslett 160 acre farm near West Branch. They protested Union Central Life Insurance Company bid of 3000 below the mortgage and the sale was postponed three days to seek a higher bid to cover 12000 and avoid a deficiency judgment. The defense committee vows to continue opposing farm mortgage foreclosures in Cedar County and 700 farmers demonstrated peacefully at a separate district court hearing in Logan involving a farm receivership and six properties.

Homer L. Putnam, 69, died at 5 45 p m Sunday at his home 513 East Third Street after a year of ill health and a December stroke. Born near Darlington Wisconsin April 27 1863 he moved to Muscatine about 32 years ago and married Catherine Frank nearly 50 years ago in Lincoln Nebraska. Survivors include the widow three children Roy Putnam and Mrs Ethel Hubacher Rockford Illinois and Allan Putnam Muscatine two brothers and four sisters and four grandchildren. Funeral at Wittich Funeral Home Wednesday at 2 pm conducted by Rev Leland Lesher. The body will lie in state until Tuesday night then be taken to Luc home. burial in Long Tree cemetery.
