Eureka Cal January 3 The steamer Walla Walla flagship of Perkins Co Pacific coast line wrecked off Cape Hendocino. Forty drowned sixty saved taken to Eureka. Initial reports exaggerated and rescue boats scrambled. Crew and passengers totaled 64 and 74 respectively. later reports suggest possible survival along the coast.

Word reached Muscatine yesterday of the death of Mrs. W H Johnson formerly of Muscatine. Stricken with paralysis about a year ago she died suddenly on the 24th of last month in Honolulu Hawaiian Islands. Maiden name Fannie McNaughten she lived in Wilton many years before moving to Muscatine. Her husband a Wilton mill owner county official and local politician left three children Merle Alice and Helen to mourn her loss.
Washington January 3 It is announced that Miss Alice Roosevelt eldest daughter of the President will christen the new yacht being built by Emperor William in a ceremony this morning.
