Austin woman charged in Muscatine fraud case

Minnesota woman Mary A. Getchell, 28, held on a Muscatine County warrant and brought to Muscatine Friday on charges of false drawing and uttering after police tied five checks totaling about 450 dollars to her Little York Illinois address. She posted a 1 000 dollar bond and faces a Tuesday court appearance. Police zufolge the checks were given to Radio Shack Woolworth's Park Avenue Sun Mart and JCPenney in Muscatine Mall during January. Police reported several other arrests and a break in plus thefts and an auto collision over the weekend.

Kempf duo bid farewell after 31 years in jewelry

After 31 years Paul Kempf and Phyllis Kempf were honored by friends on Saturday as the Kempfs wrapped up their jewelry business. Paul Kempf has long operated in the jewelry trade alongside his wife and partner Phyllis.

Flashing lights at Cedar and Sth streets temporary fix

A Muscatine Power and Water spokesman said flashing traffic lights at the East Sth and Cedar streets intersection were a temporary measure while workers repaired a malfunction. The lights were expected to return to normal operation later today.

Storytime Nibble theme at Musser Public Library

Story Time Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. will feature the Nibble Nibble theme with stories including The Little Brass Band and three Margaret Wise Brown titles Country Noisy Book Three Little Animals and The Golden Sleepy Book. Duffy DeFrance and Lea Ann Logel direct a 45 minute session inviting preschool children ages three through six. Fire call Saturday 3 32 p.m trash fire at 1701 Grandview Ave produced no damage.
