Growing Season Not Waste Ruled Migrant School Size

The Office of Economic Opportunity in Washington announced it will not fund Muscatine Migrant committee’s educational program this year after an audit showed limited enrollment against grants. The project spent most funds on the day care and elementary school, with attendance lower due to a late tomato season and workers leaving early. State agencies join to provide migrant education, with plans for a Head Start program next summer and a transition to the state Public Instruction department. A regional meeting on Feb 28 will coordinate local school district participation.
