The House approved a $258 million revenue bill after a bid to cut first class postage from three to two cents failed 272 to 132. The measure strengthens tax laws, shifts rates, and raises revenue. It moves to the Senate for consideration with a revised income tax structure and earned income credit, while deductions are tightened.
Thompson Boney 92 longtime Buffalo Prairie resident died at 1 15 a m at 1300 Orchard avenue after a six week illness with multiple ailments. Born October 10 1841 in Armstrong County Pennsylvania he moved with his family to Illinois later cobbled a trek via Ohio Mississippi to New Boston Illinois He married Lucinda Meyers in 1869 who died 1888 and later Adah Helm who died 1930 Surviving children include Nellie Pence Ira Boney Joseph Boney and Roy Boney and a daughter Lyda Boruff with four grandchildren and three great grandchildren Funeral from 1300 Orchard avenue then Presbyterian church Buffalo Prairie with burial in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery
Davenport city treasurer Charles E Robeson aged 43 died this morning after shooting himself in a downtown office. Coroner Cantwell cited personal financial troubles as the cause while auditors examined city books. Robeson, first elected in 1914, faced a noted decline in mood and had left belongings for his wife before the act.
The air mail project run by army fliers, after weather delays in parts of the country, was functioning near normal. A gale in New England postponed the Newark to Boston leg, but conditions were improving with better weather anticipated in Las Vegas. At Newark, planes departed on schedule for the west and south, and the first Cleveland flight completed its round trip safely.
Washington reports indicate President Roosevelt may act on ocean mail contracts as three investigations unfold. Walter F. The Iowa House approved by 76 to 29 the conference committee report on a three way tax bill establishing a net personal income tax a 2 percent business franchise tax and a 2 percent retail sales tax The retail sales tax expires April 1 1937 and the plan features a graduated personal income tax with deductions for married persons single filers and dependents The measure allocates funds for administration poor relief millage elimination and county prorations with per taxpayer gains capped at 50 cents
A jury for the second trial of Dr. Alice Lindsay Wynekoop, accused of the operating table murder of Rheta Gardner Wynekoop, was selected in Chicago. The youthful panel includes 12 jurors with ages ranging from 25 to 63, tenures in various trades, and seven married.

Illinois sees rain in the south and rain or snow in the north, colder in the northwest and west central tonight, Thursday partly cloudy and much colder after rain along the Ohio river. Mississippi River stages show Dubuque 2.1 rising 0.1, Davenport 0.1 rising 0.3, Muscatine 1.4 falling 0.3, Keokuk 1.2 falling 0.4.
The Iowa house approved 4 percent beer by weight today after defeats on attempts to raise or lower content. Amendments to ban sale at state fair grounds and to table the bill were rejected, with votes showing strong partisan division. Two major amendments remain under consideration as the session continues.

Muscatine voters have one day left to register for the city elections. City recorder Floyd McKinney says the recorder’s office and other city hall offices will close Thursday for Washington’s birthday and reopen Friday for the final registration period until 8 p.m. to accommodate all registrants.
Leaders from Denmark Bulgaria Siam and France gathered or were expected to attend the Belgian king Albert funeral in Brussels. Prince Humbert of Italy and the Prince of Wales were among early arrivals with heightened security as mourners filed past the coffin. The crown prince will be crowned king Friday after an oath in parliament.
Chicago reports a suspect in the attack on E. P. Adler publisher of the Davenport Times, tied to a kidnapping plot. Adler was struck and fled as two men attempted to abduct him at Morrison hotel. one man was captured and a trunk with air holes found nearby. St Paul police seek interrogation of the Chicago suspect in Hamm and Bremer cases with federal agents. Adler attended an Infante Daily Press convention in Chicago.
Chicago reports new testimony that prosecutors say builds a complete picture of John Factor’s abduction. Walter Henrichsen, a former chauffeur and bodyguard, testified he helped collect the $70,000 ransom, while Isaac Costner again implicated Touhy and co-defendants Albert Kator and Gustav Schafer. A setback followed when Peter Williams, 50, was arrested as caretaker of the house tied to Factor’s captivity. Factor could not identify the residence.
