Sheriff seeks 1600 square foot expansion for Muscatine jail
Muscatine County supervisors weigh adding about 1600 square feet to the sheriff's building to ease crowding. Sheriff Oppelt outlines plans including a larger front office, radio room, investigator space, and basement locker area that could serve as an emergency shelter. The board delayed a decision and urged evaluating remodeling existing space. A second plan calls for a new cellblock dormitory for misdemeanants as current jail runs near capacity.
