Medicaid cuts hit 123 Muscatine County residents

Medicaid payments to 123 Muscatine County recipients were cut off due to state funds shortages. The December-1968 review shows 153 cases originally cut, with 30 reinstated as exceptions or transfers, while about 9,000 statewide residents were removed and roughly 80,000 remained eligible.

Council renews Union Hall beer permit amid minor sale case

Muscatine city council, in a special session, renewed the Union Hall tavern beer license despite an ongoing Fruitland township justice court case accusing the tavern of selling to minors. The renewal was contingent on the case outcome and police enforcement measures. Mayor Burns said a secret premeeting violated open meeting laws.

Science Fair Workshop Set For Saturday at MCC

License plate deadline nears in Town

Public notice from Jack Leverenz, director of motor vehicle registration for Towa, warns that after March 14 vehicles must display 1969 plates and registration or face a summons. Mail applications after February 20 risk plates returning after March 15. Public Safety Commissioner Fulton estimates over 2,000,000 vehicles will be registered this year with penalties: 5 percent for March and 10 percent for March filings.

The Muscatine park board is examining feasibility of tennis courts softball fields and park restrooms. Tentative spring work covers four tennis courts with the school board, summer plans include three minor Little League fields a women's softball field and a men's softball field.
