Muscatine High School will allow voluntary earlier starts next year with a seven period day. Some students begin at 7:40 a.m. and others at 8:40 a.m. Dismissal times are 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The plan aims to ease crowding and use facilities better.
The Muscatine Community School Board approved a new special services salary schedule for teachers directing extra-curricular activities. A committee led by Mrs. Dorothy Dahl set a point-based rating and listed pay for roles across varsity and junior high sports, intramurals, dramatics, music, supervision, and summer programs, with amounts ranging from $50 to $1,110 depending on job type, grade level, and responsibilities.
George Tubeli SIU Carbondale assistant basketball coach will speak at the Muscatine Kiwanis basketball banquet on March 21. Hayes High Muscatine High and Muscatine Community College squads will attend. SIU ranked No 1 in small colleges and has defeated top majors. Jack Nietzel banquet chairman.
Pvt Tony R. Rickey and his wife reside at 126 W Fulham while he serves in the active Army Reserves. He has begun basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri with ER 17744461 assigned to F-83 3rd Platoon in the 65473 postal area.
Lincoln Troop 116 observed Boy Scout week with a potluck at Lincoln school gymnasium attended by 27 families. Scoutmaster Verl L. Holtz outlined next summer’s events with slides of campouts and trips to Camp Minnesota and canoeing. Ten weeks of swimming begin Wednesday at the YMCA, and seventeen troop members joined Sunday services at Park Avenue Methodist Church with leaders and Chaplain Rev. Thomas Hotle.
Adventists set Christian Home Week for February 18 to 25 with Muscatine church leader Pastor Gerald M. Fillman urging daily conduct as a Christian. He says more time for prayer and helping others is needed, and notes Americans spend millions on self-help materials while the Bible offers the best guidance for happier homes and citizenship.
Titus, president of the Muscatine Swim Club, urged the school board to create a high school girls swimming program. The board allowed coach Judd Anderson to take a group of CHEP chartered girls to the Iowa State meet in Ames on April 15, marking the first state girls swimming meet. Muscatine High girls will be representatives from the club, while the district considers establishing a formal program despite facility shortages. Clyde Gabriel noted existing Girls Recreational Association activity with limited participation.
Cedar Rapids authorities identify Leo Wagenknecht, 29, of Sterling TL, as the man who called an ambulance for 18-year-old Susan Shore whose body was found near a motel. Police report no foul play suspected so far and no charges filed. Wagenknecht, a former employer of Shore, will not discuss the case until autopsy results are released.
A switch engine derailed on East Second Street near Hills Lumber Co at 6 am. Rock Island railroad workers spent about three hours to place the engine back on the tracks.
A neighborhood citizen's committee named Dr W Gremmels temporary chairman at a Monday night gathering at the neighborhood center at East Second street and Mulberry. James A Glass explained the committee's aims for programs at Friendly House Davenport. Attendees discussed senior citizen and teen projects, a day care nursery and vocational training. about 100 people attended. The next meeting is slated for later in February on a date to be announced.
Cornell College senior Michael Rogers will perform in the evening recital series at Cornell next week. He will play Mozart Concerto in C major K 467 at 7 30 p.m. February 21 in Maxwell Auditorium, accompanied by Prof Julian Bern of the Cornell music faculty. Rogers is the son of Mr and Mrs Lawrence L Rogers of 1219 Orange Street.
Jerry Lee Large aged 25 of 700 West Second Street was bound over to district court on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Justice Walter Pilgrim set bond at 5000 dollars. The alleged victim is Large’s 19 month old stepdaughter hospitalized Sunday night in fair condition.
Mrs. E. W. Ryan of Muscatine represented the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs at the governor's women's traffic safety conference in Des Moines on Monday.
Marilyn Zeidler, a Muscatine high school senior, is among 40 finalists in the William Flet cher King scholarship competition at Cornell College. She traveled there Saturday to participate in the event.
James R. Craig of Springfield Missouri delivered a humorous speech on the American way of life at a Rotary club rural urban banquet at Hotel Muscatine. An audience of 104 club members and former guests heard him. He urged respect for democracy and individual rights and noted his roles as chairman of the Credit Bureau of Springfield and chairman of the Missouri Finance Corp board.
Mrs Marie Montz attended the 1967 governor's women's traffic safety conference in Des Moines Monday representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary of Muscatine and the local Red Cross Motor corps.

Formation of a zoological society is the purpose of a 7 30 p m Wednesday meeting at the Civic Center 109 West Mississippi. Muscatine park commission members will attend. Election of officers adoption of by laws on the agenda. Society to aid Weed Park Zoo and set membership fees and program of aid for 700.
De Molay Commandery Knights Templar will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Masonic temple for a full-form opening and business session. A potluck supper and social hour for members families and visitors at 6 36 p m will be followed by an observance of George Washingtons birthday with The Rev T Ray Crews as speaker.
Muscatine Community School District board of education tabled a proposal to drop the ninth grade vocational agriculture course. The district already runs a four year program serving 65 to 76 students, with first year at West Junior High. A committee will study vocational training needs while debate continues on expanding college prep versus direct industry pathways.
