Brady's Leap and pursuit across the Cuyahoga Gorge

An account recalls Brady fleeing Indians after a brutal encounter. He crosses a narrow rocky chasm, leaps the stream, is wounded in the thigh, and evades capture by slipping into a pond under an oak. The pursuing party misreads his fate, believing him drowned, while he retreats to safety with his band.

Brady's Leap and Captain Brady in Ohio border lore

From Parker's Journal the tale places Captain Brady as a central frontier leader around 1730 near the Ohio and Catfish Camp. A large Indian party from the falls of the Cuyahoga struck south of the river, prompting Brady to raise a chosen band after them. Brady's forces pursued toward Northampton Portage County while Indians split toward the north and falls of the Cuyahoga, leaving the action unresolved as the pursuit and ambush faced heavy danger.

None of Your Profit Is None of Your Peril

A terse proverb-like remark warns that profit gained without risk can bring hidden dangers. It suggests prudence in balancing risk and gain, noting that ignoring peril alongside profit can backfire.

Life and Youth in a Winding Ocean of Hope

Fragmentary prose reflecting on life as a journey of joy and sorrow, youth and aging, with imagery of storms and calm seas. It laments fragile hopes, shifting fortunes, and the ache of love and lost dreams as time and fate shape human experience. The piece reads like a meditation on life’s fleeting brightness amid tempests.
