City outlines landfill plan test borings and rezoning
Muscatine officials told the county board they plan a 252 acre sanitary landfill west of Muscatine in the island bluff area. Two tasks ahead are borings to check for porous sand and to ensure the site does not affect a nearby soil conservation project. State Engineers said proper operation should pose no health problems and would not endanger water supplies. The city will seek rezoning to I-2 heavy industry and will fund the project from sewer and garbage revenues, not taxes.
