Higher 1965 Feed Grain Program Draws Attention in Muscatine
Local update reports the 1965 feed grain program largely mirrors 1964 with higher support payment rates and adjusted loan terms. Muscatine County ASC chair Harold Van Zandt notes plans aim to boost participation beyond the 1964 level, when 63 percent of state farms and 51 percent of Muscatine farms enrolled. Nationwide corn price support remains $1.25 per bushel, with 1965 payments 20 cents higher per bushel for normal production and 5 cents less on loans than 1964. Participation requires at least a 20 percent reduction in base acreage for corn, grain sorghum, and barley, and rerouting diverted acreage.
