City Adds New Wells for Water
Muscatine mounts new water capacity with two wells 75 and 60 feet deep, both using 100 horsepower pumps. one at Maple Grove main field, the other near Bershey avenue. The 32 month water total rose 14 percent year over year, with peak demand up 17 percent. Plans include extensive mains work, fire hydrants relocation, and a new pumping station by 1963 with right-of-way casements for a 24 inch main. A state and federal study will assess underground resources ahead of a possible new city water field.
