Weed control progress in 1963 Iowa farming practices
Iowa farmers improved both chemical and cultural weed control in 1963 though expert Sylvester notes more emphasis is needed. Pre-emergence sprays on corn and soybeans showed mixed results with rainfall affecting benefits. postemergence sprays yielded good control when applied correctly. Cultural methods expanded in 1968 with mowing, smother crops, and better seedbed prep aided by favorable weather, while new weed teasels faced declines.
